A Little Humorous Photography

Photography isn’t just about lights and shadows. It’s also about having fun. Sometimes something will come along that really catches my eye, and I’ll have an, “aha!” moment. Such was the case here.

A few years ago a friend and I took a roadtrip across Colorado. Like Hawaii, Colorado is a photographer’s paradise. There are so many beautiful places to stop along the side of the road and shoot a photo. This was one of those places. The scenery was so enchanting, and there was hardly any traffic. So, we stopped. Right in front of a “No Trespassing” sign. Seriously?

I get it. No one wants people hiking around their property, causing damage and leaving trash behind, and I wouldn’t like it either. But it doesn’t mean I can’t stay on the side of the road, outside the property line. My lenses, particularly my zoom lenses, know no boundaries. They can bring the restricted areas to me. However, in this case, I decided to use a wide angle lens instead. The gate created a nice foreground and it gave the image depth. I also wanted to include as much of the countryside as I could.  To me, this image also has some humor. Not so much in a “ha! ha!” funny sort of way, but in an ironic way.
